Note that electricity and water should be transferred not cut off by buyer and seller at closing. Transfers should be made effective the day of closing or as soon thereafter as practical. The telephone company generally requires a cut off of the existing phone before a new phone can be connected. Cable company requirements seem to vary from time to time and person to person. Therefore, no general rule is provided here relative to cable transfer. A letter of credit from your present utility company or a check in the amount of $50.00 will be required initially to eliminate a delay in connection or transfer.
